Recovery coaching is the process of offering strengths-based support to individuals working to maintain a solid foundation in recovery from substance use or emotional disorders. The role of the coach is to assist ‘coachees’ in identifying and utilizing recovery capital (internal and external resources), building upon recovery to achieve other life goals that make recovery worthwhile. Coaching sessions are non-clinical and action-oriented, with an emphasis on improving present life.
Coaches:
- Support positive changes
- Support those transitioning out of treatment programs to sustain recovery
- Help to build community support
- Help individuals identify and achieve goals
- Provide accountability
